“All that we are is the result of what we have thought: it is founded on our thoughts and made up of our thoughts. If a man speak or act with an evil thought, suffering follows him as the wheel follows the hoof of the beast that draws the wagon.... If a man speak or act with a good thought, happiness follows him like a shadow that never leaves him”
Gothama Samana - Gautama Shakyamuni

“I am Bhante Arunasiri, Abbot of Kent Buddhist Monastery. We seek funding to establish an environmentally sustainable Mindfulness and Meditation Centre for the people of Kent. The centre will promote mental wellbeing, mindfulness, personal development, and community cohesion through meditation programmes, wellbeing workshops, Dhamma education, and counselling support.
We will provide children's educational programmes that nurture moral values, character development, creativity, and responsible citizenship. We actively engage with interfaith organisations across Kent and look forward to working collaboratively with local churches, including the Canterbury community, and other faith groups for the benefit of local residents.
All programmes will be delivered in accordance with the timeless teachings of the Buddha while respecting and upholding the core British values of respect, inclusion, tolerance, and community cohesion. We are committed to supporting local welfare initiatives and creating a welcoming space where people of all backgrounds can develop inner peace, resilience, and positive community connections.”
Kent Sri Lankan Buddhist Cultural Centre is governed in accordance with its constitution and charitable objectives. The organisation is overseen by a Governing Body comprising a President, Secretary, and Treasurer, who collectively hold responsibility for strategic direction, financial oversight, and operational management.
The President provides leadership and ensures the organisation operates in line with its charitable purpose and Buddhist values. The Secretary is responsible for governance, administration, and regulatory compliance, while the Treasurer oversees financial management, budgeting, and the proper use of charitable funds.
In addition, an Advisory Board of three members supports the Governing Body by offering guidance, experience, and independent advice to ensure transparency, accountability, and the effective delivery of charitable activities.
Together, the Governing Body and Advisory Board are committed to ethical leadership, sound financial stewardship, and the long-term sustainability of the organisation in service to the community.
